How the Motability Scheme works

The Motability Scheme is easy to understand and easy to benefit from. You exchange all, or part of your PIP higher rate mobility allowance to lease a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair. We organise for payment directly from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) so you have nothing to worry about. You will need a least 12 months’ award remaining on your allowance to be able to apply.

If you qualify and feel the Motability Scheme is for you, we will assess your needs and recommend the best scooter for comfort, ease of use and most importantly, maximum independence. 

Once you have chosen the scooter or powered wheelchair you would like, payments are automatically deducted from your mobility allowance every four weeks. This is possible as most products cost less than your weekly mobility allowance, which means you’ll receive the remainder directly from the DWP as normal.
