Richard reflects – part two
The second part of a special Recare service Q&A with our Co-founder and CEO, Richard Holland-Oakes
A better mobility service – Recare blog
How does Recare offer a no pressure approach to selling?
We always focus on recommending the right product for the right person. Our Trusted Assessors are not commission-based salespeople which are employed by many other retailers. In the absence of bonuses or commission, our Assessors are purely focused on the needs of our customers irrelevant of the cost of a product. They simply assess and advise and provide the most appropriate choice of wheelchair, powerchair or seating for example.

Why is Recare service so broad?
We provide products to a wide variety of customers, both end users and healthcare professionals. And our service is tailored to match. Local clients who visit our Long Hanborough demonstration room tend to be looking for more generalised products such as mobility scooters and stairlifts, whereas nationally we excel in more specialist, high-tech equipment for rehabilitation and complex needs – from John O’Groats to Land’s End, we service the whole of the UK.
In terms of professional clients, we have seen an increase in enquiries from private occupational therapists in need of our clinical and technical knowledge. Equally, more case managers and expert witnesses involved in legal negligence and personal injury claims for their clients are approaching us for equipment recommendations.

Why are the Recare onsite workshop and seating clinic so special?
Having a separate engineering workshop at our headquarters gives us and our customers an advantage. When they come to be assessed or to trial products, they can do so in a clean, relaxed and spacious environment without noisy and dirty equipment repairs all happening in the same place, which is typical of non-specialist mobility retailers. At Recare, we always put the customer experience first. This is also true with our specialist seating clinic.
The popularity of our seating clinic continues to grow with disabled clients and occupational therapists. The main service we offer is pressure mapping which compiles data on how clients sit in relation to their posture. With the data we gather, tailormade seating can be sculpted to provide optimum support – especially important for people who sit for extended periods, such as wheelchair users.

How does Recare also help healthcare professionals?
Alongside members of the public, we also help occupational and physio therapists to assist their clients. Healthcare professionals such as these have a good knowledge of anatomy and occupation so our product expertise combines to provide the best outcome. We know that product compliance is also a hot topic right now so can advise all OTs on equipment that meets the latest standards.
At the request of professionals, we go out and meet clients with disabilities, assess their needs and write reports which are then used to justify funding such as charity grants and personal injury compensation claims. Invariably the products needed are high-end and tailor made so that’s where we come in – to advise case managers on the best solution that will provide longevity for a client.
And anything else that makes Recare service outstanding?
In a nutshell, time. More time to assess and consult with clients so we achieve the best bespoke product for individual needs. Many tend to ask us ‘how long will an assessment take or how long have I got to make a decision?’ We always say as much time as you like. If you want to be in our showroom for hours and feel more comfortable with that, then that’s fine. It’s a nice environment in which people do not feel that they are being sold to. We are there to reassure and to give peace of mind.
